Working

Mood is.......: thoughtful
Listening to..: fan blowing
Watching......: gonna start on Supernatural again <3>
I have been even if I've been a slow ho about it. I'm slowly but surely working my way through my commissions, even though of you who claim you don't need anything, tough.

Baby here didn't get all perspective-y like I wanted but I was having too many issues to continue fiddling. Perspective will have to happen another time I fear.

I do like my rain and my XXX sign so far. And my alien lamp post.

Back in the Commission Saddle

Mood is.......: determined
Listening to..: the tv
Watching......: "Dangerous When Wet"
I am working even if it doesn't seem like it. It's probably easier to catch me at my Justin.tv feed than waiting for me to update here sooner or later.

First two are portrait commissions from bleupencil and psamophis for my eye fund. Sala for bleu and Lince for psamophis respectively. I'm having trouble concentrating to see proper inking so for now it's easier for me to sketch.

The next two are for Uno, of the five I'm doing for her. Alex is the beautiful black girl (who I think still looks a tad too ghetto) and actually belongs to dixey. Next is Uno's Priestess and my girl Lana.
Priestess expects you to eat at her house.
Lana doesn't take well to rules or expectations.
This will be a long standoff. ;P
Next pair are for me- Uno challenged us to do a gender swap and I've been curious to try it out for a while. I am annoyed that I didn't realize girl!Zeke was out of proportion with the rest until later. And Tae in a cowboy hat. Lucky's hat actually. ;)

Lastly on the left is a portrait I commissioned from KeroseneKate of my boy Musk and then attacked with colors.
And that's what I have currently. I'm working as I can but artblock is a bitch. >P

For the Birthday girl...

Listening to..: "Left Outside Alone" Anastacia
It's not the same thing as having it done, but at least you can see I'm doing my best on it.

Update time wench!

Mood is.......: busy and tired
Listening to..: "Heartbreaker" Pink
Need to keep this updated more often regardless of who looks at it.

All of the above are commissions- the first is still in progress and is for an old D&D buddy. I have discovered that one of my 'sketching' brushes makes great 'beaten-up' metal texture. I think my cave is a little too 'magically delicious' but I didn't want it all grey and flat. I will be adding glowy mushrooms for light sources which amuses me. The next three are from my V-Day commission special (still ongoing!/end plug) and the last is a lineart commission in which I found that I enjoyed shading hair. I might have to concentrate a little more on my inking than what I normally do.

Mafiya stuff again. Left is a ref sheet which I don't think I will do again if I can help it- I hated it and I find them boring but it was to see if I could get the character into a club. On the right is for the tarot card deck. Despite the fact I did the flames behind him by hand it still looks like a crappy photomanip and it pisses me off. Grrr.

And lastly one I did just tonight- a sketch trade with feralgrinn. Her boy Angelo who I would molest given the opportunity. ;p

Night chickies.

I hate clothes

Mood is.......: tired
Listening to..: "New World Symphony" Fantastic Four Soundtrack
Watching......: "Casino Royale"
I hate drawing clothes. People should just be naked. It was be easier for me to draw them. Only a few today but I'm getting closer to be done with one of my big commissions.

Two finished pieces:

The one on the left was basically an excuse to practice drawing a man's back and work on the sunset. Kinda messy/sorta finished sketchy. The one on the right is clearly a char ref. I don't know much about the boy but I like him. I'd like to play with him at some point too.

And as usual, unavisi:

Left is Musk and Kauri, who belongs to Tephers. Their personalities are very similar and I can never pass up a rogue. On the right is one of my DOOM!commissions. I'm thisclose to being done with it...except for freaking Tam's clothes. I hate clothes. But I WILL conquer him and his bloody clothes. One way or another.

Nite lovies.

A commissions and some thoughts

Mood is.......: hungry
Listening to..: the tv
Watching......: "Law and Order" on TNT
I've been going slower than I'd like on my last few commissions. Some of it is the whole moving thing, the other is the fact that I'm just tired of thinking of interesting ways of drawing people and situations. Granted, I take pride in making my commissions interesting but I'm getting burnt out. I doubt that I'd get pleasure doing the regular straight on or 3/4's view either but I dunno. Maybe I just need to figure out something new to offer, something with a little more structure?

Anyways. Ruthie's last commission of our characters- Spencer and Ariel (otherwise known as 'Fishie'). I'm definitely liking the green as the base to the skin tones and it even works for the hair (since they are blond) but I'll have to play with it more with other skin tones and colors. I did go to art school and I do know color theory (in theory) but that was done with real paint.

Been thinking about putting up some commissions on ebay and then maybe doing some portrait adoptions for EllenMillion's portrait adoption site. Except I'm not guaranteed money from either (and I'd really like to get away from the fantasy part of my art). Still, from what I've seen, in order to sell prints and things, fantasy would probably get me money if I took out the extremely personal aspects of them and made them more universal. Which is an interesting thought but ultimately sort of frustrating. I like creating art that appeals to me, it's why I became an artist- to have control and tell 'my stories' basically. But in order to make money, I need to make my stuff more approachable. I'm just not creative enough to come up with something that appeals to a wide range and I'm not talented enough to get by on 'pretty pictures' alone.

Speaking of talent, I ran across this rant at DA. I find it interesting what the artist says (haven't had a chance to read all the way through the comments) about perhaps using the term aptitude rather than talent. I like that. It gives more accomplishment to the artist rather than write it off as something that was handed to them. My less-than-artistically-inclined roommates (and even the one who was) can attest to how many hours I spent in front of my computer working on my art. Because art is a living thing that stretches and grows. And more over, if you don't use it, you do lose it to certain degrees. It's not just hanging around in your head waiting for you to pick it up whenever you feel like it. And that's enough of that.

I've also been considering getting into more 'hands on' stuff. I'm almost an exclusively digital artist right now and I find myself wanting to do ACEO cards. I think it might be fun- except I've never been able to do traditional media with the same flair or interest as CG. But hey, sketching can't kill me.

Another thing I'd like to try out is working on 'face ups' for BJD (ball joint dolls). Stuff like this one here would be immensely satisfying I think (and I adore freckles). I've seen some with tattoos that would be really fun to play with too. I don't really want to own a BJD (at least not at their prices, yikes) but the idea of making them from a blank canvas into someone or something really really appeals. Sort of like the make-up heads from when you were a kid (although those only came up colored in certain parts, bah).

And I think that's enough rambling for today. More as I figure out what I want for a new tattoo.

A couple commissions and curls, killer curls

Mood is.......: distracted
Watching......: channel surfing
First off. Another commission for Ruthie. I'm enjoying this set up although I need to figure out how to draw fish. >>

Next is K@'s killer commission. I think it'll be pretty awesome in the end but for right now I feel like I'm going crosseyed. Also, I hate Tam and his clothes. It was easier to draw him when he was only in pants. >P

I did a meme over on my LJ about my style and what I need to do more of. Both comments mentioned that I needed to work on different body types. Which I know. I don't think my characters look particularly long/lanky but other people do. And mostly I draw action oriented characters so there is a reason for it often. But I digress!
This is one of my non-action oriented girls, Izzy. Izzy whom I'm very fond of. Tried to make her look short and round. I hope it worked.

And finally, I am an art masochist. I spotted Prism-chan's Snow White and Rose Red lineart and decided I had to do it. One- it's so pretty and two, I've always been fond of said fairy tale. But then I realized that all that prettiness is because of lots and lots of detail. Including killer curls.

Obviously not finished but I'm stuck on getting colors for the last bits. I want Red to have warm tones at least.
That's all!

Commissions and other things

Mood is.......: productive
Listening to..: "Put the Blame on Mame" (Rita Hayworth)
Watching......: Venture Brothers credits

New commission for my girl Ruthie. She gave me completely free reign on this one so I choose Spencer and Ariel from our Skinwalkers RP. In our 'verse, skinwalkers were in a nutshell werecats. Hence the chin-scritches. ;) I thought it was a cute image anyways.

And my next BIG commission for K@. Bane and her family. It's going slow but steady and I haven't had to fight anyone too much so far. I hope everyone's getting enough "screen time", since she is paying me for it. >>;
I also dig Bane's top but that's just me. It was HARD drawing Ace (right foreground) from that angle but I think it came out alright so far.

My girl Elena who I've always thought would make a lovely film noir dame. Somewhere between a femme fatale and a damsel in distress. Was inspired by a special I saw on TCM on ganster movies and them reminding me of the fact that Humphrey Bogart was awesome. Gangster and noirs aren't exactly the same thing but they overlap and it got me in the mood.
I like the completely tonal one a smidge better but the one with the pops of colors isn't too. Although I definitely think it has a kind of Turner colorization feel to it which is why I don't like it more.

I'll upload them both to paperdemon when I get my commissions a little more worked on.
Ciao lovies.

Drama interrupts creativity....

Mood is.......: thoughtful
Listening to..:
Watching......: videos on VH1
...film at 11? I dunno. I sometimes write weird titles, although it is true. I had drama at DA, and then drama surrounding getting a job which jerked any progress I've been making to a halt. But I've picked up again and I have goodies to share.

Speaking of DA, I have left it for Paperdemon. PD isn't perfect but I already had the start of a gallery there and it isn't any worse than the rest. Better than sheezy at least. Here are a couple thumbnails to one finished pic and one sketch:

Movie_Go_Boom_by_pariahsdreamAny_Ol39_Corner_Will_Do_by_pariahsdream

I like that they offer the thumbnails but jeez, could they be any smaller? O_< The sketch I'm rather frustrated with. I don't think it's dynamic enough but I'll figure it out.

Done on Tegaki but not posted. I like the general idea of the character I have here and I think I'll flesh her out. Since about high school, I've been intrigued with the Beauty and the Beast theme in reverse- making the female a hideous monster and the man handsome. When I was IN high school the story was very emo and all about unrequited love. But there might be a nugget of gold in there. I don't want to rely on secondary sex characteristics to define her as female but I hem and haw over lopping off her breasts. I think I'll keep her eyes mostly human since that's usually where people look. But yeah, long ramble on a quick scribble.

Before I even moved to my current state, I have wanted to do a drawn crossover between the McManus brothers of "Boondock Saints" and the Winchester boys of "Supernatural". I just love the thought of them drinking and telling each other wild stories. I picked this up again to sketch where I've added the two papas- which has led to the weird empty space in the corner there. I gotta fix that. Suggestions are welcome btw.

This is actually a slightly older image of my Italian 'Stallone' Gianni. He is being put up for the 3rd round in the Black Tears club and I thought, as an Italian and not a Russian, he wouldn't have the initiation tattoo. So what would he wear? I decided that a diamond worn descretely would work (in Russian prison culture diamonds signify informant/betrayer). I added the four smaller diamonds in the middle to represent his three brothers and father- and to double as a sort of 'cross' design.

What I'm actually working on right now. Commission for my girl, Ruthie of another set of our RP characters, this time in a Robin Hood 'verse. Guy of Gisbourne and Fayth. Originally this was just supposed to be a double portrait but I liked my idea too much to get rid of their lower bodies. I always wanted to contribute to Mel's 'dudes in distress' theme. ;p So while this is sort of reflecting an RP scene, he had more clothes on in it and wasn't on his knees. Heh.

Collage of sketches that may or may never get finished. All mafiya related. I'm particularly fond of the brothers beating up on Gigi in the right corner. Marcelo looks like a steriod freak but I think that works for his character.

Also, I uploaded it to show people I can't draw pronz. Not that you can see it here, but trust me.

So when I ran the 'diamond instead of the regular tat' across to the BT Boss lady, her original thought at hearing tattoo was 'horseshoe on his (Gianni's) ass'. Which cracked me the hell up and now my poor boy is going to wake up with a hangover and a tattoo that makes him look like a My Little Pony.

I am a sick, sick girl. XD

Boy you'd think I had mafiya on the brain eh? Just inking Gigi's family- and fixing Marcelo's weird hair/face descrepancy. This is much better.

That's it for now. I wanna draw Julie and Zeke from my Prodigals universe. Zeke has been chatting at me lately, letting me get to know him better. He's quite a bit more laidback than I originally pictured him. Less knight-in-shining armor but still a good man.

Julie just wants a fashion update. I'm thinking possibly rockabilly meets Stevie Nicks. Must ponder.

Ciao lovies!

Moving Right Along

Mood is.......: thoughtful
Listening to..: "Save My Life" Pink
Watching......: infomericals
Finally finished one BIG commission for my girl. I don't like doing D&D commissions in general because they tend to be picky and have overly complicated armor/weapons but luckily that had none of that. It did have six characters and a background however. I think I'm putting a temporary halt on any commissions with more than three characters. I have two more with 6+ in the works already. Bleh.

Anyways!

During another conversation with Uno, we decided that Zeke (the one on the left) and her Diablo would totally chill and hang together. They're both musicians with laidback views on the world. A little bit older of a sketch but I found it today so I thought I'd upload it for kicks.

This was inspired by a picture on DA of a girl with a faux hawk. I know, I know, they're lame but I <3 them regardless. I like the way she styled hers and I wanted to try it on Dala since I love her hawk but I like to play with her hair.

Also used a ref of Nicole Kidman in this kinky bondage!lite leather outfit. Very sexy against her pale skin. I thought I'd flip the colors and do Dala in whites or creams. Actually I'm debating doing this in gray tones with maybe a pop or two or color. But then again I love the idea of Dala's skin tone too. I might try both at that. Assuming I have the time to get this to that stage ever.

Finished inking Lana. The bands on her sleeves are going to be semi-transparent as well but colored. When I figure out what color her outfit is then I'll add those. I do like her tongue and her 'make-up' under her eyes. I totally ripped that from the new Pussycat Dolls' video.

To me they tend to look.....um, sticky? and slutty (I know, duh) but I did like the swipes of color under the main girl's eyes. It would only look good/work on someone with darker skin but I think it was a cool way to do eyeshadow.

Got a fit of Star Wars nostalgia. Just playing around with a few ideas 'borrowed' from my first character's would be path in life/AU frame. Except I set it in Old Republic universe since I <3 the KOTOR games and miss playing them.

Missing two characters (the main two actually XD) because I haven't settled on designs. This'll look interesting colored since the guy on the far left is Zeltron (pink skin!) and the one on the far right is a Twi'lek (Koosha back to his roots ;D). I need to design some sexy markings for him. Hrmm, I'll have to poke at the SW Online trial for some ideas.

Commission for Turbo v. 2.1 at DA. He's a great guy and a really nice/laidback commissioner but I don't know if I'll upload this there when I finish with it. I don't mind the playfulness of the scene since it IS consensual and actually in the confines of a relationship.....but I know the kinds of people who see it as 'hawt lesbian bondage fetish pronz!' and I really don't want to give them more fodder, y'know? I am fond of their faces. Dammit. I'd like to show it off....

Bah. I'll decide later. Or maybe I'll just put it on here or my LJ. Probably my LJ since people actually check that...

Harvey Wallbanger. Yes like the drink. Cuz inside, I'm a giggly 13 y/o fangirl. Or something. I can't design clothes worth shit and from here on out I swear everyone is going to end up naked.

And on that note, good night lovies. <3

25 August 2008

Why can't I sketch more of what I'm supposed to?

Mood is.......: overwhelmed
Listening to..: Daria
Watching......: CSI on Spike
I think it's some cosmic joke of the muses that artists seem to always get inspiration on exactly what they AREN'T supposed to be working on. Although the muses occasionally get help.

First three here are the result of a conversation with Uno last night. Was a total blast.

Moondancer (hers) and Tae (mine). I haven't drawn Tae in months and months so I'm a tad rusty. Moondancer has a SAD past and Tae just can't help but want to hug the poor girl. MD is bemused I think.

Jynx (hers) and Lana (mine). Jynx is a total bastard and I love him for it. He and Lana would get along like cats and dogs (who'd end up having hot hate sex). I really need to show my love for other of her babies- I think I've drawn Jynx and MD more than any of the others.

Lana. Because when I started sketching the above, she was like 'Oh HELL no. I want art for ME.' Cuz she's cranky like that. Based off an image of Sarah Jessica Parker. She has a similar body type to what I want for Lana- not overly tall but thin. She has too much boobage for Lana though. Girl's a B on her best days. ;p

Serro and Vali. Big surprise. I need to fix Serro's hair but I like the position. One of the things I got from seeing "10,000 BC" was this greeting/good bye that the men did (pictured above). It just seemed like a nice thing for men to do other than the hand clasping.

For the group I'm a part of on Y! There's a contest going on to depict our boys in 'uniform' so they can win a chance to be promoted. Now Serro is already a Captain and Gianni isn't even technically in the mafiya....so there isn't a lot of reason for me to do it. Plus I had no ideas. So I resorted to lowbrow comedy - stick a man in a dress. ;p

Drawn for a girl on Y! Her snarky, amusing half-elf gnawing on his sort-of-lover-but-they-won't-admit-it-god-isn't-it-cute friend. Neither belong to me and I wish I'd done a bit better on the sketch. Ah well. Next time.

90's comic boys- ones that really haven't survived the transition to the new era. Left to right- Adam X (X-treme), Reno Bryce (Warblade) and Shatterstar. Two are Marvel boys and one belongs to Jim Lee. I'm sensing a theme in my crushes here....;p

I do hope to finish it someday.

Note to self: Need more stubble.

Hey look, an actual commission! I know. Shocking. For my girl Apis. Still chipping away slowly but surely.

For another girl at Y! who's having a bit of a bad time as of late. My boy Gianni hanging around with her flirt Petya. And drinking. Lots of drinking.

Still not liking this one. I don't know how to make the coloring less boring. I'd hate to have to start over completely but I just might. I do like Cumber's hair...but that's it.

And this last one is for a contest I'm hoping to enter on DA. It's for a steampunk jewelry designer. I <3 her designs a lot and since she uses keys, I wanted to do something with that. Now I only have to do 3 characters but somehow I ended up with 5. *coff*

Anyways, back to trying to get my head on commissions.
